PostgreSQL vs MySQL for Robotics Companies: What Are the Similarities and Differences?

October 9, 2020 by Polly Leave a Comment

PostgreSQL and MySQL are both Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), which have been the choice management systems for many robotics companies for decades.

Do you want to learn more about the similarities and differences between these two platforms? Are you trying to figure out which one is best for you? In this article, we’ll compare PostgreSQL vs. MySQL to equip you with the right information to make an informed decision.

Similarities

The major similarity between these two platforms is that they can serve the same purpose. They are both RDBMS, which are complex technological systems that simplify data storage, prevent data theft, and improve operations across a wide area of applications.

Furthermore, both platforms structure data according to the relational data model. This means they both organize data as tables of rows and columns. They offer a wider array of features than Excel, and are applicable to more complex database management operations. They are both effective in working with data at scale.

What Are the Key Differences between PostgreSQL and MySQL?

While there are several similarities between PostgreSQL and MySQL, there are worlds of differences between them too. Some of the key differences between PostgreSQL and MySQL include:

PostgreSQL is available under an open-source license while MySQL has its source code open-sourced to the public under the GNU license, and can best be described as a community-driven DBMS system.

PostgreSQL supports most modern applications like JSON, XML, and more, while MySQL supports only JSON.
While PostgreSQL performs incredibly well when executing complex queries, MySQL often performs well in OLAP and OLTP systems only.

While PostgreSQL is completely ACID compliant, MySQL is partially ACID compliant.

And while PostgreSQL supports Materialized Views, PostgreSQL doesn’t support Materialized Views.

PostgreSQL is perfect for complex applications dealing with large volumes of data, while MySQL is suitable for simple web applications or any application that requires a simple schema design.

PostgreSQL vs. MySQL: Which Is Best for You?

On paper, when you compare the performances of MySQL vs PostgreSQL, PostgreSQL may seem like a better option than MySQL on key performance indicators. However, this doesn’t mean it will be perfect for you. There are some important factors to consider when choosing the right system to use.

PostgreSQL will be the perfect DBMS for you if you are dealing with complex procedures, integration, intricate designs, and data integration. It is the right one to choose if you prioritize comprehensive and compliant experience over high speed and ease of use.

MySQL is the right choice for you if you require high-security RDBMS for web applications or custom solutions. It may be the right option for you if your priority is swift data operations that don’t require full SQL compliance.

For robotics companies looking to choose a suitable Relational Database Management Systems, we hope this comparison article will help you make the ideal choice.
