The story behind Kawasaki’s duAro 2 robot

March 8, 2019 by Anna

In June 2018, a new model of the dual-arm SCARA robot “duAro” series, the duAro2, was released. The duAro is a collaborative robot (cobot) first launched by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, or Kawasaki, in June 2015.

Like humans, it has two arms and is capable of working alongside humans in the same environment. While the series’ inaugural duAro1 model specialises in horizontal motion, the duAro2 improves upon its capabilities, extending the range of its arms’ vertical stroke from 15 cm to 55 cm, and increasing the maximum payload of each arm from 2 kg to 3 kg.

Shogo Hasegawa (General Manager of FA Solution Second Department of Robot Business Division in Precision Machinery & Robot Company) is known as the “Father of duAro”, who has been involved since development of duAro1 first began. He talks about developing the duAro2 and the story behind it.

Hänel Storage Systems, a leader in the manufacture and integration of automated vertical storage units, has announced Augmented Reality (AR) features for use in conjunction with its storage systems.

Through the use of wireless “data eyeglasses” and Pick-by-Voice, a Hänel Lean-Lift Vertical Lift Module (VLM) can be operated hands-free, without the use of a system controller or keyboard.

The optical AR device uses voice commands to accomplish data input and item selection. While wearing the AR display, users can view all relevant data and information regarding a stored item, including its description, photograph and stored location.

Universal Robots to show its latest cobot solutions at Automate 2019

March 8, 2019 by Anna

At Automate 2019 in April, Universal Robots will showcase new cobot-powered solutions for machine tending, packaging, assembly, and processing.

The company says new applications debunk myths on what cobots can handle while also addressing industries experiencing hiring issues.

When U.S. manufacturers were asked to describe their primary business challenge, it wasn’t the increase of raw materials cost, trade uncertainties, or rising health insurance expenses that topped their lists.
