IMTS 2018 sets new record for most exhibition space, highest number of exhibitors and booths

The International Manufacturing Technology Show, opened this morning to record numbers: 1,424,232 sq. ft. of exhibit space and 2,123 booths representing 2,563 exhibiting companies.

Exhibitors have brought in more than 55 million lbs. of machinery on 4,465 trucks with eight machines weighing more than 100,000 lbs.

As of Sept. 7th, the number of pre-registered visitors exceeded 113,000, which is also on pace for a possible record. IMTS 2018 runs from Sept. 10 – 15 at Chicago’s McCormick Place.  [Read more…] about IMTS 2018 sets new record for most exhibition space, highest number of exhibitors and booths

Faro launches new automated inspection system

Faro, which specializes in 3D measurement and imaging solutions for factory metrology and 3D machine vision, has launched the Faro OneClick system exclusively to members of the Faro Early Adopter Program.

The early adopter program provides its members access to new innovative, solutions before they become broadly available.

3D Systems and GF Machining Solutions are launching their first joint solution, the DMP Factory 500.

Techman Robot launches new industrial robot systems at IMTS

Techman Robot has launched several new industrial automation systems – including the new TM12 and TM14 robots – at the International Manufacturing Technology Show, currently taking place in Chicago.

The company boasts that its Techman robot is “the most intelligent collaborative industrial robot in the world” and recently signed a partnership with industrial automation giant Omron.

Geek Plus launches autonomous forklift and ‘new generation of material handling solutions’ at CIIF

Market for AI in manufacturing forecast to grow at 57 percent a year in Asia

The market for artificial intelligence systems in manufacturing is forecast to grow at 57 percent a year in the Asia-Pacific region, according to a new report.

The study, Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing Market, published by Allied Market Research, forecasts the global AI in manufacturing market to reach $15,273.7 million by 2025 from $513.6 million in 2017, at a “staggering growth rate” of 55.2 percent from 2018 to 2025.

Komatsu autonomous trucks ‘increase productivity by 34 percent’ at Rio Tinto

Global mining giant Rio Tinto is said to have increased productivity by 34 percent through the use of Komatsu autonomous trucks.

Rio Tinto has been testing and implementing autonomous technology for around a decade, and after a decade of using Komatsu’s massive driverless trucks, the company is integrating autonomous trains into its operations.

Komatsu’s vehicles are called autonomous haulage systems, or AHS. Comau partners with Precision Technologies for powertrain machining

Comau has announced a strategic partnership with Precision Technologies, Inc. (PTI). Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Englewood, Tennessee, USA, PTI supplies CNC machine tools, rebuilds and retrofits, application solutions.

It serves a variety of industries including aerospace, automotive, construction, medical, oil and gas, power generation, and transportation.

According to Tracy Ellis, Sales Manager for Powertrain Machining at Comau, “Partnering with Precision Technologies allows us to introduce our powertrain machining product line to new customers in new industry segments.”

Sumitomo partners with Lippo on last-mile delivery in Indonesia

Sumitomo Corporation and the Lippo Group have signed a strategic partnership and Sumitomo has completed investment into Red Carpet Logistics (RCL), Lippo’s tech-enabled last-mile delivery operations.

Japan-based Sumitomo now owns a 40% equity stake in RCL. Proceeds from the transaction will go towards accelerating the growth of the company and entering the C2C express delivery market under the new brand “RCL Express”.

Established in 2016, RCL’s operations in Indonesia span 53 hubs, serving 172 cities and covering 2,400 districts across the country’s archipelago.
