Panasonic shows off smart city parking technology

Panasonic North America highlighted some of its latest parking and safer roads technology at Smart Cities New York earlier this month, an event looking at future technologies for the urban space.

The company highlighted its IoT-connected Smart Parking Meter, which enables people to search and book vacant parking spaces on their smartphones, alongside another solution for cities to use parking space operational data for future transport and development planning.

In addition, Panasonic introduced the “Smart Street solution” which combines security camera and image analysis of pedestrian traffic with AI.

Teradata and Cisco work on smart cities solution

Teradata is working with Cisco on a digital transformation solution with a focus on smart cities and communities.

Combining the merits of Cisco’s IoT platform, Cisco Kinetic for Cities, with the Teradata Analytics Platform, the solution will help cities become smarter and more connected by providing a powerful solution for integrated data exchange.

The Cisco platform collects, aggregates and normalises real-time data securely across city networks. Teradata is among the first enterprise data analytics companies to integrate with this platform to provide smart data management, such as analytics, persistent data lifecycle management and data enrichment, that delivers business insights to cities and communities.

Telit and Husqvarna collaborate on robots for urban park sustainability program

Telit, a provider of internet of things technologies, is supplying appliance maker Husqvarna with a wireless sensor device for its city robotic mower pilot program. 

The sensor was co-developed by Telit and Wireless System Integration, a Sweden-based design house developing wireless products and systems.

Siemens to establish global robotics research and development centre in China

Engineering giant Siemens is establishing a robotics research and development centre in China. 

The company says the facility will be a global research centre in autonomous robotics, and is part of its innovation strategy to “master technology fields that are critical for future success”.

Worldwide, Siemens is planning to spend $6 billion this year on R&D, and China is likely to represent a significant portion of that budget.

Siemens says the global research community in its China R&D centre will comprise experienced experts from around the world will focus on:

  • the research and development of new mechatronics systems,
  • human-robot collaboration; and
  • the application of artificial intelligence in robotic controllers.
