April 4, 2019 by Nicola Harvey

No matter whether you’re a university student hoping to gain funding for your project or a robotics project manager, you need to use a prototype.

You’ve already outlined your concept, your drawings, and all of your requirements. You know exactly how to pitch your ideas, but how do you seal the deal? You guessed it: prototypes.

The reality is that it’s impossible to fully visualize a product without seeing it physically. Drawings and 3D models help fill these gaps in the imagination, but it’s still not yet existing in the physical space.  [Read more…] about 5 Reasons Why Prototypes Are Important for Robotics

Like many other cutting edge technologies – artificial intelligence, big data analytics – additive manufacturing, or 3D printing, has been incorporated into daily use at Land Rover Ben Ainslie Racing with the help of the team’s Technical Innovation Group.

In this case, TIG partner Renishaw, a global metrology firm which manufactures metal additive manufacturing machines, as well as working with the more familiar 3D printing in plastics for its own prototyping.

TIG project manager, George Sykes of PA Consulting, says: “We use 3D printing at three different levels within the team. The simplest level is as a prototyping and visualisation tool. We manufacture a large number of custom parts and 3D printing allows us to make full size prototypes in-house before we commit to a design.”  [Read more…] about Renishaw 3D printing technology increases Land Rover BAR’s performance

Infineon Technologies has launched the first online prototyping engine combining analog and digital simulation functionalities in an internet application.

Infineon Designer requires a web browser only, and the company says it is “a perfect match for supporting customers in selecting the right product for a defined application”.

Infineon Designer works intuitively in a very short time, and neither installation nor licenses are needed, according to the company.  [Read more…] about Infineon launches what it claims is the first-of-its-kind online engineering prototype design application
