Comau provides Geely with ‘powerful’ multi-robot solution

Industrial automation specialist Comau has provided Geely, one of China’s largest automotive brands, with a ‘powerful process solution’ using multiple robots to install motor rotors

The rapid market evolution of new energy vehicles (NEV) is revolutionizing electric drive systems, propelling motor assemblies toward unprecedented levels of integration, higher voltage capabilities, and enhanced power outputs.

As the driver of energy conversion, the electric motor plays a pivotal role in determining a vehicle’s efficiency, reliability, and overall performance.

ABB to install 300 painting robots at leading Chinese automaker’s facility

ABB has signed a formal agreement to install 300 painting robots at a leading Chinese automaker’s facility.

The agreement with SAIC Volkswagen is to provide robotics painting solutions for the first New Energy Vehicle factory of the Volkswagen Group based on the Modular Electric Driver Kit, an automotive platform specifically designed for the mass production of electric vehicles.

China’s National Development and Reform Commission recently announced the elimination of foreign equity restrictions on special-purpose vehicles and new energy vehicles in 2018, on commercial vehicles in 2020 and on passenger vehicles in 2022.

In addition to the opportunity to own their own manufacturing ventures, foreign automakers are no longer restricted to having only two joint ventures in China.

The 50:50 joint venture equity rule dates back to 1994.
