Nauticus to supply Aquanaut to Petrobras Brazil

September 6, 2023 by David Edwards

Nauticus Robotics, a developer of autonomous robots using artificial intelligence for data collection and intervention services for the ocean industries, has been awarded a contract with Petrobras, one of the world’s largest energy companies, to deploy Aquanaut, the company’s autonomous subsea robot, to support Petrobras’ offshore activities.

Petrobras has ramped up efforts recently in robotics and artificial intelligence and is pioneering their application to the offshore sectors.

Toward that end, this relevant contract was competitively awarded to Nauticus and will utilize Aquanaut in Petrobras’ Deepwater Production Field using supervised autonomy for infield inspection services. [Read more…] about Nauticus to supply Aquanaut to Petrobras Brazil

Nauticus Robotics launch new generation of its Aquanauts

April 16, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Nauticus Robotics, a developer of autonomous robots using artificial intelligence for data collection and intervention services for the ocean industries, has launched the first of three second-generation Aquanauts, dubbed the “Mark 2” (MK2).

The Aquanauts will now start commissioning exercises. Following commissioning, Nauticus expects to send the initial Aquanaut MK2 units to the North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico in the coming months to support customer initiatives in those regions.

The Aquanaut MK2 is a fully electric, untethered and autonomous subsea robot that is controlled through acoustic communication networking and underpinned by Nauticus’ proprietary software suite, toolKITT. The artificial intelligence-based software suite allows for robotic controls, user interfaces, sensor integration, simulation, data analysis, and communication frameworks purpose-built to enable subsea work. Houston Mechatronics unveils underwater transforming robot ‘Aquanaut’

May 22, 2019 by Anna

Houston Mechatronics (HMI) unveiled Aquanaut at the NASA Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory, one year after the announcement of the platform concept.

Aquanaut is a revolutionary multi-mode transforming all-electric undersea vehicle. The vehicle is capable of efficient long-distance transit and data collection in ‘AUV’ (autonomous underwater vehicle) mode.

After transforming into ‘ROV’ (remotely operated vehicle) mode the head of the vehicle pitches up, the hull separates, and two arms are activated so that Aquanaut may manipulate its environment.

Houston Mechatronics raises $20m for sub-sea robot development

May 1, 2018 by Anna

Houston Mechatronics Inc. (HMI), has announced a Series B investment of $20 million from Transocean and existing investor Schlumberger, which led HMI’s Series A investment in 2015.

Much of the new funding will be directed towards the commercialization of HMI’s first product, Aquanaut, a sub-sea service robot that can perform complex tasks over low bandwidth networks, eliminating the need for surface ships.

Beyond Aquanaut, HMI intends to continue developing novel sub-sea capability and other robotic technology for use in oil and gas applications with an objective to increase reliability, efficiency, capability, and safety.
