Abu Dhabi connects with clinic in America to perform ‘first transcontinental’ robotic assisted cancer operation

May 1, 2025 by Mark Allinson

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, part of the M42 group, has achieved a historic milestone in global healthcare.

In collaboration with experts from Cleveland Clinic in the US, the team performed the world’s first remotely conducted transcontinental robotic-assisted focal therapy for prostate cancer.

Focal therapy is a non-invasive treatment that precisely targets a specific section of the prostate using ultrasound beams, eliminating the need for major surgery or radiation. The Focal-One system enhances this approach with a robotic arm that ensures precise and controlled ultrasound delivery. SteerAI’s driverless car technology chosen to power Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League

November 12, 2024 by Mark Allinson

SteerAI, an autonomous mobility venture backed by the Abu Dhabi Advanced Technology Research Council’s VentureOne, has partnered with the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) to provide the powerful autonomy kits to be used in the racing league’s AI-driven Super Formula cars.

A2RL used SteerAI’s kit throughout their testing campaign in Italy alongside Juju Noda, a Japanese Super Formula Driver. This weekend, A2RL will test the kit at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan in a “Man vs Machine” demo featuring former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat on November 10 as part of Suzuka’s season finale.

Reda Nidhakou, acting CEO of VentureOne, says: “SteerAI’s collaboration with A2RL marks a significant step in autonomous mobility technology, showcasing the UAE’s leadership in AI and mobility solutions. Abu Dhabi dough powering autonomous desert cars

November 4, 2024 by Mark Allinson

VentureOne, the commercialization arm of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), has launched SteerAI, which offers an advanced mobility system powered by AI that can “transform standard industrial vehicles into autonomous powerhouses”, according to its creators.

Catering to both the logistics and defense sectors to begin, SteerAI uses a hardware kit, software stack, and fleet management system to allow autonomous ground vehicles to tackle complex missions with high precision and efficiency, saving time and resources while protecting human workforces.

SteerAI’s technology was developed by experts from Abu Dhabi’s Technology Innovation Institute (TII), the ATRC’s applied research arm. [Read more…] about Abu Dhabi dough powering autonomous desert cars

Abu Dhabi hosts ‘record numbers’ of delegates and visitors for IROS robotics conference

October 18, 2024 by Mark Allinson

The 36th edition of the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2024) successfully concluded in Abu Dhabi today, October 18th, 2024, with a “record number of nearly 10,000, visitors, delegates and participants in attendance”.

The success of what is arguably the world’s most prestigious robotics exhibition has “emphatically raised the profile of Abu Dhabi as a global destination for robotics and artificial intelligence, as well as for advanced technology innovation”, say the organizers.

Researchers, academics, scientists and regulatory stakeholders inspired guests and visitors with their impactful plenary talks, keynote sessions, and individual poster and oral presentations at IROS 2024 that opened on 14 October at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC).

ABB automates giant solar energy farm in Abu Dhabi

July 23, 2024 by Mark Allinson

The Al Dhafra PV2 Solar project in Abu Dhabi – for which ABB supplies automation and optimization power generation solutions – is now exporting 100 percent of its designed capacity onto the grid.

Covering an area of 20 square km in the Al Dhafra region, located around 30 km south of Abu Dhabi City, the 2 GW plant uses four million solar modules to generate enough electricity for 200,000 homes across the UAE per year.

It will also help reduce Abu Dhabi’s annual CO2 emissions by more than 2.4 million metric tons, the equivalent of removing approximately 470,000 combustion cars from the roads.

Abu Dhabi starts work on building region’s first-ever quantum computer

August 23, 2021 by David Edwards

Abu Dhabi’s Technology Innovation Institute, a pioneering global research and development centre that focuses on applied research, today unboxed the cryostat – the initial frame of its quantum computer that is being assembled in the UAE capital.

TII’s Quantum Research Centre (QRC) is spearheading the landmark advanced technology project that aims to give the world a quantum advantage through developing a supercomputer with exponential computational capabilities.

Two helium dilution refrigerators arrived from Finland earlier this week in massive wooden crates, an essential component that uses helium isotopes to cool the quantum chips or the brain of the computer and maintain the quantum information.
