Flexiv Robotics unveils its innovations at Stanford Robotics Center opening

January 7, 2025 by Anika Haque

Flexiv Robotics, a provider of general-purpose robotics solutions, participated in the recent opening of the Stanford Robotics Center (SRC), a groundbreaking facility dedicated to advancing robotics across industries including logistics, manufacturing, healthcare, art, space exploration, and home automation.

As a longstanding advocate of Stanford’s robotics department, and with Flexiv’s four founders being alumni, Flexiv’s support for the creation of the SRC highlights not only the university’s dedication to innovation and collaboration but also its strong industry ties.

Bringing together cross-disciplinary world-class researchers and industrial affiliates, the SRC is dedicated to exploring how robotics can impact how we live and work, improve healthcare and quality of life, and give people power to do things they could never do before. Downtown Skyport to become new operator for Manhattan Heliport

December 24, 2024 by Anika Haque

The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has selected Downtown Skyport as the new operator of the Downtown Manhattan Heliport (DMH) following a Franchise and Concession Review Committee FCRC public hearing approval.

Following a competitive Request for Proposal RFP process, Downtown Skyport will take over management of DMH to continue existing operations and upgrade the City-owned heliport to provide the supporting infrastructure for electric vertical take-off and landing eVTOL aircraft, as well as last-mile maritime freight delivery.

In November 2023, Mayor Adams and NYCEDC announced a new vision of transforming the heliport into a sustainable, multi-modal transportation and logistics hub. [Read more…] about Downtown Skyport to become new operator for Manhattan Heliport

Robotic perception continues to evolve in the warehouse, says Exotec

December 18, 2024 by Anika Haque

AI and ML are helping warehouse robots better understand their environment and how to interact with it, helping them to operate more effectively

Robots continue to make their mark in the warehouse, working alongside humans, and as they evolve, so do their perception systems.

According to Exotec, the growth of AI and machine learning is playing an instrumental role in driving this improvement, as robots are continuing to adapt to their surroundings and fine-tune their operations.

Robotic perception is the ability of a robot to perceive, comprehend and reason about the environment in which it operates. Perception is the first step in robotic movement, enabling it to make correct decisions when complimenting or in partnership with humans in the warehouse. Predictions for 2025: Generative AI and more technology in factories

December 13, 2024 by Anika Haque

Chris Iveson, CEO and co-founder of FourJaw Manufacturing Analytics, shares four predictions for how he believes smart factory operations will evolve in 2025

The manufacturing industry is often bombarded by tech companies and consultants pushing pipedream technologies nowhere near ready for implementation in most factory settings.

Despite this, the smart factory movement keeps marching on, driven by practical, down-to-earth tools that manufacturers can deploy at scale to deliver rapid return on investment. [Read more…] about Predictions for 2025: Generative AI and more technology in factories

EDAP TMS publishes results of cancer treatment through robotic system

December 9, 2024 by Anika Haque

EDAP TMS, a provider of robotic energy-based therapies, has published the full results from the HIFI study in the prestigious, peer-reviewed journal, European Urology, which has the highest impact factor amongst scientific journals focused in urology.

The study evaluated HIFU versus radical prostatectomy (RP) as a first line treatment of localized prostate cancer. The paper is entitled “Whole-gland or Subtotal High-intensity Focused Ultrasound Versus Radical Prostatectomy: The Prospective, Noninferiority, Nonrandomized, HIFI Trial”, and is authored by Dr Guillaume Ploussard from Department of Urology, UROSUD, Clinique La Croix du Sud, France.

Professor Pascal Rischmann, principal investigator of the HIFI trial and senior author of the publication, says: “The publication of the HIFI study in European Urology will importantly serve to increase awareness amongst the global urology and patient community on how robotic HIFU technology is rapidly changing the treatment paradigm for patients with localized, early-stage prostate cancer.
