Swisslog Healthcare, a leading supplier in transport and pharmacy automation solutions, invited University of Colorado Boulder students for an exclusive Reverse Interview Day tour at the company’s Technology Center.
Students interviewed Swisslog Healthcare professionals about their career journeys while touring facilities that showcase how robots and smart technology save lives in hospitals. The event took place on October 14, highlighting exciting technology careers students might not have considered.
Katherine Pickens McConnell, scholar in residence at CU Boulder Mechanical Engineering, says: “Visiting Swisslog Healthcare is a great opportunity to see engineering in action.
“Their robotic and pneumatic systems touch on so many different areas of what the students learn in class, from fluid mechanics to electronics and programming.
“It’s a great opportunity to be able to talk with different members of their team and learn about their technology.”
The event provided students with direct access to Swisslog Healthcare’s state-of-the-art facility where they observed live demonstrations of automated medication management systems and the TransLogic pneumatic tube system that transports medications, lab samples, and supplies throughout hospitals.
Amanda Costanzi, head of global marketing and communications at Swisslog Healthcare, says: “Anticipating tomorrow’s healthcare challenges necessitates technical skills in robotics, software development, and systems integration that today’s engineering students are developing.
“College students may have arrived with specific career paths in mind, but after touring the Technology Center and picking the brains of our professionals, they saw how their skills can apply to many roles in the workforce.”
As part of its North American headquarters, the Swisslog Healthcare Technology Center offers an immersive test-and-learn environment and showroom for training, education, and customer evaluation of pharmacy automation solutions and pneumatic tube systems.
The tour gave students an interactive experience, showcasing the impact of robotics and automation in healthcare.
Andreas Dettling, mechanical engineering student at CU Boulder, says: “I am very appreciative that the employees of Swisslog Healthcare gave us a look directly into what our future careers could look like, and gave us cool insights into a particular niche of engineering.
“I appreciated meeting real engineers with a collaborative and innovative mindset and it made me excited for my future in engineering.”
The Technology Center is LEED Certified with more than 80,000 square feet of functional space and an expansive 30-foot ceiling including backup generators equivalent to the strength of hospital generators.
The space allows Swisslog Healthcare to strengthen community connections and demonstrate STEM career opportunities for aspiring students.
