ZF Marine, a specialist in marine propulsion and control systems, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Avikus, HD Hyundai’s autonomous navigation subsidiary.
The agreement will integrate Avikus’ Neuboat Navi with Control Autonomous System into ZF’s TotalCommand electronic control platform, marking a significant step forward in the evolution of intelligent marine operations.
Under the terms of the MOU, Avikus will utilize ZF’s open protocol marine controllers to enable seamless compatibility with its award- winning autonomous navigation technologies.
The integration will introduce advanced features such as collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, and auto docking to ZF’s TotalCommand systems, enhancing safety, precision, and convenience for boaters worldwide.
Keith Stanley, pleasure craft product line manager for North America, says: “ZF is known for delivering cutting-edge marine control solutions. This collaboration with Avikus allows us to push the boundaries of marine autonomy and offer our customers smarter, safer, and more intuitive control systems.”
Avikus’ Neuboat Navi with Control system works in tandem with its Navi and Dock modules to provide real-time situational awareness and automated adjustments during navigation and docking.
Using advanced sensors and object detection, the system helps operators make informed decisions for safe and efficient maneuvering. ZF’s TotalCommand propulsion control family features advanced CAN-bus communication technology and multi-function control heads that support up to six stations.
The system automatically synchronizes engines across all modes, offering smooth shifting and seamless transitions without the need for manual inputs.
This partnership ensures that Avikus’ autonomous systems will be fully compatible with ZF controllers across OEMs, dealers, and customers, paving the way for broader adoption of autonomous marine technologies.
