The Robotic Revolution in Recycling

April 13, 2020 by Polly Leave a Comment

AMP Robotics has received significantly more orders for recycling-sorting robots since the start of the pandemic.

Some see this as a sign of things to come: nonessential workers in struggling industries being replaced by robots.

While most people would not have called recycling a “struggling industry” a month ago, Covid-19 has forced recycling plants to close, save those who traded human workers for machines. [Read more…] about The Robotic Revolution in Recycling

Top 5 Career Options You Can Gain from Becoming a Forklift Operator

April 13, 2020 by Polly Leave a Comment

Not a lot of kids dream about becoming a forklift operator when they grow up. However, if you want to get your foot in the door of construction, manufacturing, and even the food industry, you can start with this profession and work your way up.

A forklift operator drives a powered industrial truck to lift and transport materials from one point to another. They are considered professional drivers and have to obtain a Masterdrive Forklift Operator Cert as well as a higher-level driver’s license.

If you’re thinking about following this career path, below are the five job options that you have after becoming a forklift operator. [Read more…] about Top 5 Career Options You Can Gain from Becoming a Forklift Operator

Alio Industries launches new nano-positioning device

April 13, 2020 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Alio Industries has unveiled the latest version of its Hybrid Hexapod nano-positioning.

The “all new” HH-30D Hybrid Hexapod – the industry’s only 6-Degree-Of-Freedom (6-DOF) nano positioning device with +/-30 degrees tip and tilt travel.

The Hybrid Hexapod was developed by Alio Industries to address the inherent performance limitations of conventional hexapods. [Read more…] about Alio Industries launches new nano-positioning device

IMI Norgren launches online configurator for choosing actuators

April 13, 2020 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

A new online application configuration tool, which allows engineers to specify their required actuator easily and quickly, has been launched by IMI Precision Engineering.

The traditional manual specification of electric actuators often prove a “time consuming and complex task” for engineers, says IMI.

The new configurator, which compliments the IMI Norgren Elion Electrical Actuation Rodstyle and Rodless range, has become an “essential tool”, simplifying the process and allowing users to benefit from a wealth of knowledge and expertise to ensure they select the most efficient and accurate actuator, says the company. STMicroelectronics unveils new vibration-monitoring solution for industrial applications

April 13, 2020 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

STMicroelectronics, a semiconductor manufacturer, has launched a new vibration-sensing solution optimized to enable smart maintenance of factory equipment.

ST’s IIS3DWB vibration sensor and supporting STEVAL-STWINKT1 multi-sensor evaluation kit accelerate development of condition-monitoring systems that boost productivity by inferring equipment maintenance needs.

Analyzing the sensed vibration data locally or in the cloud helps owners create strategies that maximize uptime, minimize servicing costs, and avoid emergency repairs. [Read more…] about STMicroelectronics unveils new vibration-monitoring solution for industrial applications

Overcoming metrology bottlenecks in additive manufacturing

April 13, 2020 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

By Eric Felkel, product manager optical profilers, Zygo Corporation

Undoubtedly there are many benefits associated with the use of additive manufacturing as a production technology.

Across industries, manufacturers exploit the fact that through the use of additive manufacturing they can not only build complex parts – in one piece – which were previously impossible, but they can also build stronger, lighter weight parts, reduce material consumption, and benefit from assembly component consolidation across a range of applications.

These advantages have been well documented during the last 10-20 years as additive manufacturing has emerged as a truly disruptive technology for not just prototyping but also production, and are invariably seen as being enabled by the additive hardware that builds the parts. RapidFit uses new horizontal arm device to measure components for automotive sector

April 13, 2020 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Materialise Group spin-off RapidFit has implemented a horizontal-arm co-ordinate measuring machine (CMM) manufactured by LK Metrology in Derbyshire, UK to check the accuracy of bespoke gaging and holding fixtures produced for the automotive industry.

Based in Leuven, Belgium, RapidFit has reduced costs and lead-times by making use of additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, to produce workpiece locators that are added to standard fixture components.

The technology enables vehicle production to be streamlined, as innovative fixtures can be constructed with enhanced functionality and better repeatability. [Read more…] about RapidFit uses new horizontal arm device to measure components for automotive sector
