At the Agrophoenix fruit processing plant in Greece, eight Stäubli SCARA robots do the opposite of cherry-picking: They pick peaches and select not the good ones, but the bad ones.
The robots are part of the AI- and vision-based STAQ inspection system developed by Dutch startup QING. Eight parallel STAQ cells perform fruit grading at remarkable speed: during the season, they process a staggering 15 tons of peaches per hour, about 100,000 peaches, each cut in half.
Agrophoenix was founded in 2018 in Greece’s Imathia region as “not just another fruit processing company” with the aim of “creating something new and fresh”, says Lazaros Ioannidis, partner and project manager.
“We had the vision to create a company that differentiates itself from business models and standards not only in Greece but in our sector overall.” [Read more…] about Stäubli robots and AI inspect 100,000 peaches an hour at Greek processing plant
