Mendix, a Siemens business that provide an application development platform used by engineers, has unveiled “a significant platform release”, with a heavy focus on AI capabilities.
The company says the new release includes agentic AI-driven enhancements designed to transform how businesses operate, compete, and grow.
By leveraging Agentic and Generative AI-assisted development across the entire SDLC, new features simplify and accelerate application development so organizations can:
- Quickly and easily generate prototypes and turn these to production-ready applications with Maia’s GenAI powered visual editors.
- Deliver agentic applications at scale, utilizing low-code abstraction with Agents Kit and Agent Builder to reduce the barrier to entry for AI solution development.
- Get even more from business process automation and enterprise intelligence with Agentic Workflow Orchestration to maximize efficiency, cut costs, and drive innovation.
The updates highlight the company’s ongoing commitment to democratize development and deliver on its vision of continuous innovation with new and enhanced features across three main areas:
- Empowering teams with agentic and generative AI capabilities
- Accelerating the delivery of complex business process automation solutions
- Amping up governance and security for all enterprise applications
Focus area one: Empowering teams with Agentic and Generative AI capabilities
This latest release weaves a wealth of new AI capabilities throughout the entire software development cycle (SDLC). New features enable organizations to leverage powerful Agentic and Generative AI capabilities at scale. With Mendix the enterprise can build better, intelligent software faster with best-in-class AI tooling.
Features include:
- Mendix Agents Kit and Agent Builder: empower enterprises to quickly create intelligent, agentic applications with low code. By connecting to enterprise data and knowledge bases, Mendix makes it easy to deliver AI-powered experiences that are tailored, scalable, and can transform the way they work.
- Create with Maia: Launch enterprise software projects the right way by turning brainstorms, mockups, diagrams, and requirements into a clear, actionable project plan. Use natural language to ensure goals, success criteria, and user stories are aligned before you start building. Once the initial prototype is created, refine that software quickly with Maia Universal Chat leveraging the inherent speed of low code. The result is fewer iterations, faster delivery, stronger governance, and software that’s built right from the start.
- Microflow and Workflow generation: Instead of creating logic and workflows by hand, users can simply describe their business needs using natural language and Mendix will instantly generate microflows that are easy to refine and adapt. Teams can now turn ideas into functionality quicker than before.
- Model Context Protocol (MCP): MCP provides AI models with secure, standardized access to external tools, agents, and data sources needed for increased autonomous automation. Enterprises can now use low code to quickly build an MCP server that is usable by any Mendix or non-Mendix built agents without the need for complex coding.
Focus area two: Accelerating the delivery of complex business process automation
The ongoing need to digitize and orchestrate evolving processes across fragmented systems continues to challenge organizations – with many business process management solutions being too rigid, slow to adapt, or hindering integration.
Organizations are confronted with a new wave of processes that are unstructured, data-heavy, and shaped by human judgment. With the newest release, organizations can now go beyond traditional processes to enable dynamic, end-to-end process automation with seamless integration, rapid adaptability, and reduced complexity – driving faster, more efficient business processes across the enterprise.
New standout features in this area include:
- Agentic workflow orchestration: The ability for Mendix Workflow to call AI agents, enabling more intelligent and autonomous workflows to be created and executed in the platform.
- Dynamic case management: This launch introduces dynamic case management, enabling the orchestration of more complex, and dynamic workflows. Now, alongside sequential workflows, build processes that rely on flexibility and human judgment within the same Mendix tools.
- Global inbox: The Mendix Global Inbox brings together disparate tasks from distributed workflows and applications into a single, adaptive view. Users can start and complete work from one place, with real-time updates powered by business events.
Focus area three: Amping up governance and AI best practice with AI Guardrails
Organizations rely on low code to build mission-critical software, so improving governance and visibility throughout the entire software development lifecycle for clients continues to be a key priority for Mendix.
The latest release demonstrates how the company is pushing into a new territory, allowing the flexibility that’s necessary for modern development while providing the appropriate level of enterprise control throughout the SDLC. Example features include:
- AI guardrails: Ensure safe, controlled and compliant AI interactions that help prevent LLMs from producing biased, explicit, or prejudiced context. The feature is available as a preset, but users can also leverage the customization setting to tailor the tool to their specific needs – enabling guardrails to be added to models via low code with less complexity.
- Enterprise-grade governance: Strengthen compliance and security with advanced features including software composition insight, policy-driven governance, landscape-wide controls, and full auditability of platform actions.
- Cloud innovations for scale and security: Leverage powerful enterprise capabilities on Mendix Cloud. Use turnkey GenAI Resource packs to power agentic applications. Create secure links to external infrastructure with Private Connectivity, integrate quality and security tooling in your DevOps process with open pipeline steps, and benefit from one-click patching with zero downtime. Benefit from unrivaled deployment flexibility from private cloud, to server-based, industrial edge device, and out-of-the box connectivity with peripheral devices on workstations.
This latest release provides a secure, efficient, and compliant development ecosystem.
Mendix 11 is now generally available for all users.
Finally, to address growing globalization and expansion in the Asia-Pacific region, Mendix is moving from Beta to General Availability for its internationalization program.
With this release, the Studio Pro IDE will be available in Korean, Japanese, and Mandarin; select portions of the online platform will be available immediately in these languages as well.
This capability continues breaking barriers for who can participate in software development with Mendix by offering it in more native languages. Further investments in internationalization are ongoing as global demand grows.
datascaleHR built its AI-native payroll data platform entirely on Mendix. Mendix provided the full gamut of developing and AI capabilities, as well as the security and compliance requirements datascaleHR needed to create their entire platform.
Luke Zawadzki, datascaleHR head of engineering says: “Mendix provides us with the ability to quickly prototype a new feature or behavior.
“This allows us to test drive living, breathing functionality early in the process and discover problems or make adjustments early. It’s great from a development perspective because you can actually deliver what your customers want.”
Raymond Kok, CEO at Mendix, says: “Mendix is on a mission to democratize Agentic and Generative AI development by meeting customers and development teams where they are.
“With these new updates, the platform allows users to incrementally explore and put into production AI solutions – starting off with the real basics, then working up to prompt engineering and integrating more complex tools – all via low code.
“We will continue to build on the capabilities and features announced in this latest release to adapt our ever-expanding portfolio of services, from elevating governance to delivering next-generation AI capabilities. Watch this space.”
