6 Ways AI and Robotics are Revolutionizing Warehouse Security

July 21, 2023 by David Edwards

The rise of advanced AI technology and automated systems continues to be a major talking point for business leaders across most major industries.

From smart data analysis enabling logistics companies to overcome supply chain issues, to automated machines dramatically improving the efficiency of manufacturing processes, AI is transforming the working world.

However, whilst many conversations surrounding AI adoption center around productivity, production planning and efficiency, businesses mustn’t overlook advancements in automated security systems.

Using AI-informed software and novel machine learning algorithms, security personnel can create proactive systems designed to prevent common threats and improve incident responses. To help teams achieve this, here are 6 ways AI and robotics are revolutionizing warehouse security.

1. Smart video security

Security systems for warehouse and logistic organizations can be measurably improved with the aid of AI-informed video security cameras.

AI software is used to detect anomalous events and suspicious behavior, such as machines being improperly used or unauthorized persons trying to enter the property, automatically alerting on-site security staff to provide a response.

2. Automatic lockdowns

AI software solutions integrated alongside wider security management systems can be used to program automatic lockdowns and incident responses.

For example, if motion sensors in a restricted area are triggered, AI analysis software will detect this action and automatically instruct nearby alarms and access control door locks to engage, instantly securing the site.

3. Security patrol robots

Autonomous robots equipped with guidance systems, cameras and alarms are becoming increasingly common in warehouse facilities. Security robots help to lessen the workloads of human teams by constantly patrolling the site to perform guard duties and deter intrusion events.

If the system detects suspicious or potentially dangerous activities, on-board alarms will sound and security teams will be notified remotely to provide additional security support.

4. Inventory theft prevention

AI video surveillance systems can be deployed to cover inventory storage facilities to both assist with accurately gauging stock levels and prevent incidents of theft.

If cameras detect anomalous behavior, such as individuals inside the warehouse after normal working hours or inventory being moved at suspicious times, security personnel will be notified automatically.

5. Cybersecurity protections

As most modern warehouses deploy a number of IoT and internet-connected devices such as alarms, sensors and access systems, many facilities can be at risk from sophisticated cyber attacks.

With AI threat detection software, teams can automatically detect suspicious actions that may indicate attempted cyber attacks and instantly apply preventive measures.

6. Advanced access control

Authentication processes and managed access control can be improved with the use of AI software. Rather than utilizing easily copied or compromised physical credentials, biometric systems can be deployed using facial and fingerprint recognition to prevent intrusion events.

AI software can also be used to monitor access logs and alert staff of anomalous behavior, with options to immediately revoke affected credentials to further improve on-site security.

Summary

AI technology and advanced robotics are changing the way that most major industries work, with physical and cybersecurity systems in particular seeing dramatic improvements.

Smart AI systems integrated alongside traditional systems like security cameras and access control can be used to improve incident response times and protect valuable assets, ensuring that warehouses and inventory storage facilities across the globe remain protected and secured.
