Lantronix launches its first embedded Ethernet gateway XPort Edge

March 13, 2018 by David Edwards

Lantronix has launched the XPort Edge, the company’s first embedded Ethernet gateway, as part of its XPort range.

The xPico 250 embedded wireless gateway, and the new Lantronix Gateway Central device management software-as-a-service offering is powered by Lantronix’s MACH10 industrial internet of things platform.

Lantronix, which is a specialist provider of secure data access and management solutions for the industrial internet of things, launched the XPort Edge at the recent Embedded World Conference, in Germany.

Since its introduction, the XPort serial to Ethernet device server has been a “market-leading module” used by original equipment manufacturers to easily add reliable network connectivity to industrial devices, according to the company.

To date, millions of IoT enabled devices have been deployed in the market using XPort, and every year that number grows by hundreds of thousands of units, says Lantronix.

The company says the XPort Edge will “bring a new level of performance, enhanced security, pre-integrated device management capability and cloud connectivity” to the platform, making it “the first true wired IoT gateway” in the industry in an easy to deploy RJ45 connector form factor.

Shahram Mehraban, Lantronix VP of marketing, says: “Wired Ethernet continues to be one of the most popular IoT connectivity options for Industrial IoT devices.

“Built on a high performance real-time ARM based system-on-a-chip, the XPort Edge is a complete IoT gateway with a robust network communications stack, enterprise grade security, and integrated cloud-based device management, in the same patented form-factor as the popular XPort.”

Lantronix will also be demonstrating its new Lantronix Gateway Central SaaS powered by the Lantronix MACH10 IoT platform.

Lantronix Gateway Central enables device manufacturers, system integrators, solution providers, and end-users to provision and manage Lantronix IoT gateways quickly and securely.

Lantronix Gateway Central SaaS offering is available for both external and embedded IoT gateways, including PremierWave XC HSPA+, PremierWave 2050, SGX 5150, the new xPico 240 and xPico 250 embedded wireless gateways, and the XPort Edge when available.

The company is also announcing the commercial availability of the xPico 250 embedded wireless gateway, which allows OEMs to quickly add robust dual-band industrial Wi-Fi, dual mode Bluetooth, and Ethernet network connectivity with enterprise security into their industrial devices.

Like the xPico 240, the xPico 250 comes pre-tested and pre-integrated with the MACH10 Global Device Management, Lantronix Gateway Central, and TruPort Security including secure boot technology.

The xPico 250 modules and evaluation kits will be available for order from Lantronix and its worldwide distribution partners later this quarter.

The company’s Embedded World booth will showcase real-world IoT applications involving the use of Lantronix embedded and external IoT solutions.

These include smart city, industrial automation, smart energy and resource management applications from OEMs worldwide.
