Arrow Electronics to supply Bosch sensors for industrial internet applications

August 26, 2017 by David Edwards

Arrow Electronics has signed a global distribution agreement with Bosch Sensortec to supply Bosch Sensortec products.

Bosch is a leading supplier of microelectromechanical systems sensors worldwide.

It has built on an initial base in automotive applications to expand its offering to consumer electronics markets and now provides a diverse portfolio of MEMS devices for the internet of things.

Arrow offers an extensive range of IoT solutions, from component level through to complete secure, end-to-end deployable services.

Since 1995, Bosch has designed and manufactured over eight billion MEMS sensors and holds more than 1,000 patents on MEMS technology.

Its in-house expertise is fuelling a roadmap of products, together with supporting software and reference designs, that enable mobile and IoT devices to feel and sense the world around them.

Bosch Sensortec is now offering an extensive range of highly integrated sensor products to meet the requirements of IoT nodes for applications such as smart home and industry 4.0.

Arrow’s IoT portfolio includes a comprehensive range of hardware components, development platforms and software tools linked together by services to deliver the broadest available IoT offering.

The company’s “Things Evolved” solutions include specifying hardware, carrying out system integration for IoT, implementing the cloud data platform, maintaining the network and product lifecycle management for assets that have reached the end of their operational life.

Together, Arrow and Bosch Sensortec will be pursuing opportunities for inertial, environmental and smart sensors in applications including wearables, smart home, building automation, industry 4.0, domestic robots, toys, augmented and virtual reality and drones.

As multiple sensors are integrated into single devices and package sizes are shrunk to meet energy efficiency and space requirements, Bosch Sensortec’s sensor data fusion software helps to enable optimum application performance.

The software separates static and dynamic acceleration, compensates for 3D tilt, eliminates magnetic distortion and identifies rest position for sensor calibration.

Stefan Finkbeiner, CEO of Bosch Sensortec, says: “This agreement brings together two of the most dynamic companies addressing the IoT, whose combined offerings can help many companies accelerating their product development, deployment and long term management. We look forward to a successful relationship.”

Aiden Mitchell, global vice president of IoT sales at Arrow, says: “Bosch Sensortec has created an excellent portfolio that is well-positioned to address the proliferation of sensory edge intelligence within today’s and future IoT applications. Bosch’s highly integrated products and software solutions complement Arrow’s Sensor-to-Sunset strategy perfectly.”

As an early example of their collaboration, Arrow has featured market-leading sensors from Bosch Sensortec on Arrow’s newly announced Aris Edge board, an ultra-low power wireless sensor node solution based on the Renesas Synergy hardware and software platform, designed to accelerate developers proof-of-concept and significantly reduce time-to-market.

Aris Edge features the Bosch BME280 (pictured), an integrated environmental sensor that combines humidity, pressure and temperature measurement functions in a 2.5 x 2.5 mm² package; and the BNO055, the first in a new family of Application Specific Sensor Nodes implementing an intelligent 9-axis Absolute Orientation Sensor, which includes sensors and sensor data fusion in a single package.

The close collaboration is also shown by the recently released environmental sensor BME680 from Bosch Sensortec which is now available for pre-ordering at Arrow.

BME680 combines temperature, humidity, pressure and indoor air quality measurement in one package and is ideally suited for the IoT.
