New York’s top arcades for a day of gaming-related fun

July 26, 2024 by Mark Allinson

When you’re done scoffing down some of the city’s amazing food and the sights have all been captured for your Instagram profile, sometimes it’s necessary to escape the hustle and bustle of New York City in a colorful and vibrant arcade setting.

Thankfully, for the Big Apple’s population of gamers, there are some fantastic arcades that are worth frequenting.

After all, in today’s innovative climate, gaming is a preference for many. Be it when boredom takes over or during a morning commute to work, people tend to session a variety of products.

Some gamers play soccer-themed titles like EA Sports FC 24, others prefer to dabble in Norse mythology-themed releases like Viking Forge with its symbols from Scandinavian history and fantasy, while some prefer to experience retro gaming releases from back in the day, such as Pac-Man.

Today, gaming audiences certainly aren’t short on opportunities in the virtual world.

If you’re in New York and require some gaming fun, then there is a strong selection of arcades to explore. Whether you enjoy scoring goals or you prefer the prospect of hammering away at the Viking Forge, New York’s gaming havens are capable of providing you with plenty of entertainment. With that in mind, below is a look at New York’s top arcades.

Chinatown Fair Family Fun Center, Chinatown

Kicking things off with a more traditional offering, Chinatown Fair Family Fun Center has been around for years and was even featured in the movie, The Devil’s Advocate. While it’s a small venue, it deserves a mention thanks to a decent array of games.

The main attractions here are titles that involve rhythm and dance, driving, and shooting, but you can also tuck into a range of games around fighting and some novelty titles. While it might feel like a step back in time, Chinatown Fair Family Fun Center is worth a visit, although beware of Tic-Tac-Toe Chicken.

The Upstairs at 66, FiDi

Easily one of most attractive gaming venues in town, The Upstairs at 66 can be found on the second story of the Route 66 Smokehouse and is definitely worth experiencing if you have the chance.

A cozy gaming environment that also boasts board games and a ping-pong table, this excellent gaming venue specializes in classic products that can be enjoyed on consoles like the Sega Genesis and the Nintendo64. A destination you can spend a good few hours in, The Upstairs at 66 is definitely worth checking out.

Wonderville, Bushwick

Located in Bushwick, Wonderville is an excellent arcade that has a strong community of players who regularly go there.

Alongside the plethora of games the venue boasts is music being played in the background, an all-round welcoming and friendly vibe, and the opportunity to sample some delicious beverages given Wonderville’s gorgeous bar.

If you’re only there for some competitive gaming action, though, then taking part in one of the seasonal leagues might be right up your street. Overall, Wonderville is a great place to enjoy some gaming-related fun.

Laser Bounce, Queens

Once you’ve devoured some of the finest delights that Queens has to offer, then settling down for a gaming marathon at Laser Bounce is required.

Featuring games for all ages, this bright and spacious gaming spot has a selection of modern-day favorites to enjoy, from a laser tag arena to a Hologate VR experience. Laser Bounce’s strong array of offerings makes it a superb location for the entire family.

Other arcades worth checking out in New York include Bowlero Chelsea Piers (Chelsea), Dave and Buster’s (Midtown West), Ace Bar (East Village), and Game of 1000 Boxes (Midtown West).
