Will humanoid robots make industrial robotic arms obsolete?

December 31, 2024 by David Edwards

Two of the biggest trends we have noticed and covered over the past seven years or so since we started this website have been what are called “autonomous mobile robots”, or AMRs, and collaborative robotic arms, or “cobots”, which are different from traditional robotic arms in that they do not need to be kept separate and can be used much like power tools.

Traditional industrial robotic arms were generally too dangerous to be too close to. They don’t know you’re there and have the power to cause injury or death if they make contact with you in the course of doing their job.

But even these “traditional” industrial robots have increasingly become more collaborative through, for example, being installed with sensors to detect human presence or touch, and stop when they might cause harm. [Read more…] about Will humanoid robots make industrial robotic arms obsolete?

Opinion: Exploring the correlation between robotics utilisation and economic growth

December 6, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Here at RoboticsAndAutomationNews.com, we often wonder about the relationship between a nation’s reported economic growth and its utilisation of robotics and automation systems. We have a hunch that the more automated machines a country integrates into its economy, the more growth it experiences. We can’t say we prove this hunch in this article, but we think most readers will agree that it is an important correlation that deserves some investigation.

Economic growth sounds like a concept that’s easy to understand, but we don’t think it’s as straightforward as it seems. Each nation and region has its own way of calculating what is called “economic growth”, and there are countless gears turning to drive nations’ economies forward.

Among these, automation – robotics being a sub-set of automation – has emerged as one of the most powerful engines for transforming many previously small economies into global payers. Over the past few decades, while being derided for using cheap labour to gain an advantage – which undoubtedly has happened, countries like China, Japan, and South Korea have surfed the automation wave to reach remarkable economic heights. Olis Robotics to launch new PLC capabilities at IMTS

August 27, 2024 by David Edwards

Olis Robotics will launch what it says is “the world’s most comprehensive remote diagnostics solution for industrial automation cells” at IMTS 2024 in Chicago, September 9-14, following the addition of powerful new PLC capabilities to its Olis solution.

Olis provides video and telemetry-based diagnostics for industrial cells, enabling technicians to diagnose the root cause of downtime events, such as a robot failure.

Immediate access to diagnostic data enables the robotic cell to be debugged quickly and remotely, slashing manufacturer downtime while empowering integrators to take on more business. [Read more…] about Olis Robotics to launch new PLC capabilities at IMTS

Augmentus raises $5 million to expand ‘no-code robotics’ offering

December 11, 2023 by Mai Tao

Augmentus, a developer of “no-code” robotics software, has successfully raised $5 million in Series A funding. The round was led by Sierra Ventures, along with Cocoon Capital.

Conventional robot programming is fragmented and costly, requiring extensive training and expertise due to proprietary programming languages. This results in 75 percent of lifetime costs being attributed to software and programming.

The industrial robotics software market is expected to reach $47 billion by 2030, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 27 percent. Augmentus aims to disrupt this market. [Read more…] about Augmentus raises $5 million to expand ‘no-code robotics’ offering

Augmentus Secures $5 million Series A Funding to Automate High-Mix and Complex Manufacturing with No-Code Robotics

November 14, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Augmentus pioneers intelligent, no-code computer vision and robot motion planning, enabling industrial robot programming in minutes instead of days

Augmentus, the global leader in intelligent and no-code robotics software solutions, today announced the successful completion of a USD 5 million Series A funding round. The round was led by Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm Sierra Ventures, along with existing seed investor Cocoon Capital.

Conventional robot programming is both highly fragmented and costly. Robot manufacturers use proprietary programming languages, which require customers to undergo extensive training and expertise to operate their robots, resulting in 75% of lifetime costs being attributed to software and programming.

The industrial robotics software market is projected to reach USD 47 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 27%. Augmentus’ no-code, vision-based robotics system is poised to disrupt this market.
