Dexterity and Kawaski partner to produce ‘world’s first intelligent robot arm’

May 19, 2025 by Sam Francis

Dexterity, a specialist in physical AI and robotics, has agreed a strategic partnership with Kawasaki Heavy Industries, one of the world’s largest robotic arm manufacturing companies, to produce high-performance robot arms for Dexterity’s hardware platform: the Mech.

The Mech is a roving, two-armed robot designed from the ground up to embody Physical AI in industrial applications. And it is being described by the companies as “the world’s first intelligent robot arm designed for warehouse applications”.

Its roving base enables it to go where large enterprises need heavy lifting of a wide range of goods, and its lightweight but powerful, dual arm design enables it to pick and pack goods at the speed of operations – and beyond. 11 industrial giants that could spin off their robotics divisions

April 23, 2025 by Sam Francis

When it was announced in March that ABB would spin off its robotics and discrete automation business into a separate entity, it marked a significant turning point for the industry.

While pure-play robotics firms have long captured investor enthusiasm – think Fanuc or iRobot – most robotics businesses remain buried inside sprawling conglomerates. But for how much longer?

As capital markets reward clarity and focus, robotics divisions trapped inside multi-industry giants may be next in line for separation. Below are 10 companies that could follow ABB’s lead. [Read more…] about 11 industrial giants that could spin off their robotics divisions

Humanoid robot market to grow to $110 billion in next eight years

April 5, 2025 by David Edwards

The global humanoid robot market reached a value of nearly $2.37 billion in 2023, having grown at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 40.69 percent since 2018.

The market is expected to grow from $2.37 billion in 2023 to $19.85 billion in 2028 at a rate of 52.91 percent. The market is then expected to grow at a CAGR of 41.81 percent from 2028 and reach $113.89 billion in 2033.

Growth in the historic period resulted from the increased demand for robots in the defense and security sector, rising labor costs or labor shortages, rising adoption of automated material handling in the retail sector. Collaborative robots market forecast to reach $7.2 billion by 2030

February 10, 2025 by Mark Allinson

Collaborative robots (cobots) are a versatile, cost-effective robot form factor that is demonstrating value across many industry verticals.

According to a new report from global technology intelligence firm ABI Research, revenue from cobots will increase from $970 million in 2023 to $7.2 billion by 2030, a compound annual growth rate of 28 percent. Safety, lower average selling prices, and accessibility will drive collaborative robot sales.

George Chowdhury, robotics industry analyst at ABI Research, says: “Cobots are at the forefront of the robotics revolution. They have the potential to democratize automation and bring robots into new markets, working side-by-side with human workers to unlock economic growth. Will humanoid robots make industrial robotic arms obsolete?

December 31, 2024 by David Edwards

Two of the biggest trends we have noticed and covered over the past seven years or so since we started this website have been what are called “autonomous mobile robots”, or AMRs, and collaborative robotic arms, or “cobots”, which are different from traditional robotic arms in that they do not need to be kept separate and can be used much like power tools.

Traditional industrial robotic arms were generally too dangerous to be too close to. They don’t know you’re there and have the power to cause injury or death if they make contact with you in the course of doing their job.

But even these “traditional” industrial robots have increasingly become more collaborative through, for example, being installed with sensors to detect human presence or touch, and stop when they might cause harm. [Read more…] about Will humanoid robots make industrial robotic arms obsolete?

Opinion: Exploring the correlation between robotics utilisation and economic growth

December 6, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Here at RoboticsAndAutomationNews.com, we often wonder about the relationship between a nation’s reported economic growth and its utilisation of robotics and automation systems. We have a hunch that the more automated machines a country integrates into its economy, the more growth it experiences. We can’t say we prove this hunch in this article, but we think most readers will agree that it is an important correlation that deserves some investigation.

Economic growth sounds like a concept that’s easy to understand, but we don’t think it’s as straightforward as it seems. Each nation and region has its own way of calculating what is called “economic growth”, and there are countless gears turning to drive nations’ economies forward.

Among these, automation – robotics being a sub-set of automation – has emerged as one of the most powerful engines for transforming many previously small economies into global payers. Over the past few decades, while being derided for using cheap labour to gain an advantage – which undoubtedly has happened, countries like China, Japan, and South Korea have surfed the automation wave to reach remarkable economic heights.
