Why Your Air Conditioner Isn’t Shutting Off, and How to Fix It

May 17, 2023 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Your home will become uncomfortably cold if your air conditioner won’t turn off, and you’ll waste a lot of energy (and money) in the process.

Clogged air filters, frozen evaporator coils, faulty electrical relay switches, dirty condenser coils, a constantly spinning fan, a defective thermostat, low refrigerant, and other HVAC system repair issues can all prevent the unit from shutting down as expected.

https://www.socool.sg/ has best services if you’re having trouble turning off your air conditioner. If your air conditioner keeps running no matter what you do or you don’t know how to fix aircon leaking problem, call them and they’ll come diagnose the problem and fix it for you.

Why is My Air Conditioner Not Turning Off?

The following HVAC system problems have been linked to air conditioners that don’t turn off when scheduled.

1. Power Problems

Many different electrical parts make up an air conditioner. Due to a blocked relay switch, an electrical circuit can be kept closed and power can be supplied to the AC unit at all times.

For continuous power to the condenser unit, the compressor contactor can fuse in the closed position. A specialist may be able to fix a jammed switch, but more often than not, it will need to be replaced.

2. Thermostat Problems

Every ten years or so, you should change your thermostat. Filth builds up on thermostat sensors over time, preventing them from providing a reliable temperature reading. Damage to the electrical wiring or a loose connection can prevent the thermostat from properly communicating with the air conditioner.

3. Wrong Thermostat Settings

When only the system fan is switched on, your air conditioner may appear to be constantly operating. When the thermostat is set to “ON”, the blower motor and fan run without interruption, regardless of whether or not the air conditioner is operating.

When the air conditioner is turned off, the inside components will continue to run and hot air will be blown out of the vents.

If the temperature is adjusted incorrectly, it may also seem as though the aircon is continually operating. When there are numerous persons in a home who have access to the thermostat, the temperature setting may be lowered, requiring the aircon to run for longer than usual to reach the desired comfort level.

4. The Fan Limit Switch is Faulty

Unfortunately, even with the appropriate fan settings, there is a chance that the motor will keep operating even if the air conditioner isn’t in use This can occur if the fan limit switch gets jammed in the override setting.

If the blower fan continues to run even when the thermostat is turned off, you may need to reset the limit switch that is situated near the fan.

Tips to Prevent AC Shutdown Problems

Tip #1 Adjust the Temperature to Your Preference:

Don’t make your aircon work harder than it needs to by setting the thermostat too low. Raise the thermostat to a more pleasant, cooler setting. Consider getting a more powerful aircon if the current one isn’t keeping the room cool enough for your comfort.

Tip #2 Keep Up With Routine Upkeep:

Keeping your air conditioner in top shape requires regular cleaning and maintenance. With exceptional maintenance services you will have your aircon functioning properly for several years.

Regular maintenance, including cleaning, may be performed at home on your air conditioner. To remove dirt and grime buildup, rinse the air filter in running water and scrub it with a bar of soap.

While the air conditioner is unplugged, hose out the outdoor condenser unit and blow off the dust from the evaporator coils with a can of compressed air.

Tip #3 Alter the Wiring Setting or Battery of Thermostat

If the thermostat itself is malfunctioning, try recharging the battery or replacing the batteries in the remote. If your thermostat is hardwired into an electrical system, you may need to inspect for tripped circuit breaker in your breaker box. Replace the control panel if resolving the power supply problem does not work.

Tip #4 Remove Dust from the Aircon

At least at the start of summer and At the end of it, clean your aircon. This will ensure that your unit is free of any particle or other debris that could create issues down the road.

You can trust that specialists will thoroughly clean your air conditioner because they have extensive knowledge with a wide variety of models and manufacturers.
