Dobot introduces expanded lineup of non-contact cobots

Collaborative robot manufacturer Dobot and its US-based master distributor DB Cobots have unveiled the addition of its 3 kg and 10 kg collaborative robots to the existing 5 kg version of the Safe Skin model previously available.

This expanded lineup will enable more industries and companies to use cobots with the safest technology available in their automation, says the company.

Dobot’s standard line of Industrial Cobots are inherently safe by stopping when the arm makes contact with an object.

The Safe Skin add-on, a silicone-buffered wearable collision detecting product customized by Dobot for its line of collaborative robots, provides an additional layer of safety by allowing the robot arm to sense an object and stop before the arm touches the object. When the object is removed, the arm continues on its original path.

While in safety function proximity pause mode, Safe Skin dynamically perceives any intrusive entity within an adjustable distance up to 15cm to the arm, responding within 0.01s and achieving an emergency stop within 0.1s.

When the intrusive entity leaves, the robot will resume its operation automatically, preserving its efficiency.

The pre-collision sensing technology quickly intervenes in the robot’s action before a collision occurs, without the need for early warning and speed reduction. In this way, it can avoid damages and fully meet the requirements of high efficiency and high safety in industrial production.

Safe Skin Non-Contact Collaborative Robot Models Include:

  • CR3S – 6 axis, 795 mm reach, 3 kg payload
  • CR5S – 6 axis, 1096 mm reach, 5 kg payload
  • CR10S – 6 axis, 1525 mm reach, 10 kg payload
