Purdue scientists build a chip that makes connections like a human brain

February 18, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

An electronic chip that can be reprogrammed on demand may enable artificial intelligence to learn more continuously like the human brain does, researchers have discovered.

When the human brain learns something new, it adapts. But when artificial intelligence learns something new, it tends to forget information it already learned.

As companies use more and more data to improve how AI recognizes images, learns languages and carries out other complex tasks, a paper published in Science this week shows a way that computer chips could dynamically rewire themselves to take in new data like the brain does, helping AI to keep learning over time. Airbus boss backs hydrogen airplanes as the ‘ultimate solution’

February 18, 2022 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

The CEO of Airbus, currently the largest aircraft manufacturer in the world, says he believes hydrogen-powered airplanes are the “ultimate solution” to the unfair criticism of the aerospace industry as a planet-polluting monster.

The World Wildlife Fund says the aviation industry is “one of the fastest-growing sources of the greenhouse gas emissions driving global climate change”, adding that air travel is “currently the most carbon intensive activity an individual can make”.

These things have been true for many decades, but with completely crazy extreme weather systems attacking different parts of the world on an almost weekly basis over the past couple of years, the search for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) has taken on a new urgency. Ethereum co-founder wants a more varied fee structure

February 18, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of the Ethereum blockchain, talked about gas fees and how to reduce them. Buterin informed the public about the possibility of the latest system having the ability to balance the issues people have with the current state of the gas charges that ETH buyers constantly complain about.

Ethereum fees have been a burning topic of discussion recently. It first boomed in 2021 with people complaining about the immensely high gas fees when Ethereum gas costs were at their acme.

Since then, it has reduced, but the fee is still pretty high on several trading websites like redot.com/eth2 and this remains a quandary for Buterin to solve.
