SICK microScan safety scanners now offer Fail Safe over EtherCAT

SICK’s microScan3 family of safety laser scanners is now offering Fail Safe over EtherCAT (FSoE) integration.

SICK says this is the world’s first safety laser scanner with this capability.

Originally launching in 2016, the microScan3 is an extremely intelligent and durable safety laser scanner that enhances machine availability and productivity due to its safeHDDM scanning technology.

It provides flexibility for safe automation processes with simultaneous protective fields, contour detection fields, and detailed data output. In addition, the microScan3 offers a 9-meter protective field range with a scanning angle of 275º.

In total, the microScan3 offers safe integration into numerous control systems, including EtherNet/IP CIP Safety, PROFINET PROFIsafe, I/O, and now, EtherCAT FSoE.

With this integration, users gain a single communication system for both control and safety data. This gives the ability to flexibly modify and expand the safety system architecture while also simplifying safety applications.
