Robots help fight the war against infectious disease

November 11, 2020 by Liv Leave a Comment

The threat of the spread of viruses is not something new, but the recent COVID-19 pandemic has sparked many responses, socially, medically, and technologically.

Managers of large, public buildings are under increasing pressure to disinfect ‘high-touch’ areas more deeply, often, due to the virus, with minimum staffing levels.

The need to do more to stop the spread of viruses in these busy public spaces led to two companies that are leaders in their fields combining forces to produce a new, highly capable, “mini UVC” robot for the safe, autonomous disinfection of public buildings. Locomation completes autonomous truck test involving three states

November 11, 2020 by Sam Francis Leave a Comment

Locomation, a startup company providing autonomous trucking technology, has completed an on-road test that involved three different states in America.

The pilot program is intended to showcase autonomous trucking technology for the SmartBelt Coalition (SBC), a collaboration of five transportation agencies and seven research and academic institutions, located throughout Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Over the course of one week, two Locomation trucks performed three separate interstate routes under close observation from representatives of all involved organizations. [Read more…] about Locomation completes autonomous truck test involving three states

AI Enabled Robots are Coming

November 11, 2020 by Elaine Leave a Comment

By Michael Frankland, Business Consultant – Factory Automation, Pivot Search

We’ve entered a new age of automation: the artificially intelligent robots are coming.
When AI enabled robots hit the manufacturing mainstream, the implications will be huge.

With the right combination of hardware, robotics will have an application in manufacturing for nearly every industry. Processes will become quicker, more accurate and more cost-effective.

Robotics in Manufacturing

The first thing to note is that when we talk about robotics within this article, we are referring to a physical piece of hardware without the ability ‘to think’ for itself, usually due to a lack of appropriate software and/or hardware.

Right now, most industrial robots are not artificially intelligent and are only programmed to carry out a repetitive series of movements, usually within a caged environment separated from humans. [Read more…] about AI Enabled Robots are Coming

Einride and Oatly reveal results of logistics test with electric trucks and freight mobility platform

November 11, 2020 by Sam Francis Leave a Comment

Autonomous and electric truck developer Einride and large-scale drinks manufacturer Oatly have revealed the initial results of the two companies’ joint logistics operations.

Einride had integrated its vehicles into Oatly’s transport routes at its production sites and warehouses in the Swedish cities of Helsingborg, Landskrona, and Småland’s Tingsryd.

Oatly is one of the first companies in the world to operate a full fleet of Einride electric trucks daily, on-site. [Read more…] about Einride and Oatly reveal results of logistics test with electric trucks and freight mobility platform

Trumpf enters the world of automated arc welding

November 11, 2020 by Sam Francis Leave a Comment

Industrial machine tools company Trumpf has released its first automated arc welding system. The TruArc Weld 1000 comes with a collaborative robot, also known as a “cobot”. After the operator has manually guided it over a component, the cobot then automatically carries out the weld.

It is significantly more efficient than would be possible manually. With the new system, Trumpf says it is responding to the increasing lack of skilled workers and helps fabricators get started with automated welding. CE-compliant and approved by TÜV Austria, the TruArc Weld 1000 “meets the very highest safety standards”. [Read more…] about Trumpf enters the world of automated arc welding
