Future trends in steel development to be analysed at SCT 2020

Future trends in steel development, processing technologies and applications are to be analysed at the industry event SCT 2020.

In close cooperation with the Steel Institute VDEh and the Research Association for Steel Application (Fosta), Düsseldorf, the international conference Steels in Cars and Trucks (SCT 2020) will be held for the sixth time.

The conference with an accompanying exhibition opens its doors from 14 to 18 June 2020 in Milan under the motto: “Bringing the automotive, supplier and steel industries together”.

The Call for Papers was a complete success with more than 190 submissions.

The conference will focus on the research, application and behavior of steel in vehicle construction. Steel is one of the most important materials in automotive engineering; around 60 percent of a modern car is made of steel.

Among other things, high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels are used, the use of which enables new designs, maximum crash safety and lower vehicle weight.

The second motto of SCT 2020, “Future trends in steel development, processing technologies and applications”, covers topics such as crash behavior of modern steels, new joining technologies as well as results of current materials research.

Other topics include new steels with specific properties, for example lightweight body construction or powertrain, as well as new forming methods and simulation processes as used in the design and manufacture of modern vehicles.

The main topics to be explored at SCT 2020 include:

  • Steel Components in Cars and Trucks
  • Manufacturing of Components
  • New Steels
  • Modelling, Simulation and Testing
  • Special Topic: Lightweight forging

The SCT 2020 is supported by ArcelorMittal as a platinum sponsor, Georgsmarienhütte, SSAB and Saarstahl as gold sponsors, Outokumpu as silver sponsor as well as national and international exhibitors and associations.

Online registration is already open, and an initial program overview will be published shortly.
