Delta Electronics starts construction of new office building in Netherlands

Delta Electronics has held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of its new building in the “Automotive Campus” in Helmond, the Netherlands.

Delta is a large, Taiwan-headquartered company which provides a huge range of industrial technologies including robotic arms.

The new building will become the base for its industrial automation business in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Delta says the final construction will meet rigorous environmental design demands and, given the company’s green credentials, Delta plans to apply for a Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Gold certification – a globally recognised accreditation.

The new building is currently expected to be operational in 2021, and will eventually house up to 150 employees.

Dalip Sharma, Delta’s president for the EMEA region, says: “Delta is currently developing IoT-based Smart Green Solutions to drive energy efficiency and lower carbon emissions in cities across EMEA.

“Being a part of the Automotive Campus community will benefit Delta and its customers, by accelerating the pace at which it can quickly convert innovative ideas into solutions, while nurturing talent, exchanging knowledge and developing know-how.

“In order to tackle numerous untapped opportunities, Delta is investing in this new building with the aim of strengthening the development in this diversified region to support the needs of the market, especially for our Industrial Automation Business Group.”

The Helmond office will support multiple business operations including sales, R&D and service and test lab capabilities for Delta’s Industrial Automation and Automotive businesses, which will greatly benefit business development.

Tim Lee, head of Delta’s Industrial Automation Business Group and e-Machine Business in EMEA, says: “Delta’s presence in Helmond is set to trigger new partnerships and collaborations with other companies and institutes located on or near the Automotive Campus or, for example, the High-Tech Campus in Eindhoven.”

The Campus provides an environment boasting leading innovation, dynamic infrastructure and a wide range of talents.

Delta’s presence amid the vibrant Automotive Campus community, provides considerable potential for the company to grow even stronger as an energy efficiency solution provider.

Accelerated growth

The development of smart manufacturing is a major pillar of Delta’s long-term strategy.

By leveraging its commitment to innovation, automation hardware-software integration capabilities and energy-efficient manufacturing expertise, Delta develops comprehensive platforms that enables its customers’ production facilities to reach smart manufacturing standards.

As Europe is home to a large automotive manufacturing base, Delta can help its local clients devise more efficient and sustainable manufacturing processes.

Additionally – and in line with Europe’s leading position in the development of automation and automotive technology – Delta offers a range of well-established automotive technology and smart mobility solutions with the needs of local customers in mind.

It provides reliable and energy efficient solutions for a wide range of Electric and plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles for most of the world’s top automotive and commercial vehicle brands.

Additionally, Delta is a key provider of smart Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure solutions – from renewable energy to energy storage to EV chargers – for residential, commercial or public use.

International hotspot

At the Automotive Campus, over 1,250 people – including around 600 students – are focused on developing mobility solutions for the future.

The Campus is a national and international hotspot; it’s a meeting point and place of business in the field of automotive technology and smart mobility, and it houses leading automotive businesses, knowledge institutes, innovative start-ups, and educational institutes.

Elly Blanksma-van den Heuvel, Mayor of Helmond, says: “We are very pleased and proud that Delta Electronics is joining the Automotive Campus in Helmond.

“It shows that Helmond, as part of Brainport Eindhoven, is an important international hotspot for technology development. It will boost the vibrant tech community and open innovation climate in Helmond and brings new economic activity and jobs.”

Joining forces and sharing knowledge

For Delta, placing its workforce in this community will undoubtedly spark enthusiasm and create new partnerships.

It also places Delta in a position to obtain and share knowledge and interact with hundreds of students representing top institutes like the Eindhoven University of Technology.

The presence of ultra-modern test facilities enables companies like Delta to transform innovative ideas into business solutions.

Lex Boon, director of the Automotive Campus, says: “In barely 15 years, our campus has grown into a top hotspot when it comes to bringing green and smart mobility solutions to the market.

“Delta already has a very strong track record when it comes to the automotive industry and new mobility, covering fields like charging infrastructure, power electronics and building automation.

“Delta is a very strong addition to our community and the company strongly adds to the Campus’ innovative ability and the international appeal of our Campus.”

A smarter and greener building

Adopting Delta’s technology and energy efficient solutions – such as renewable energy, building automation, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, display and data networking solutions – the new Helmond office will be a highly sustainable building that meets today’s highest demands in terms of sustainability and environmental design.

It aims to obtain a LEED Gold certification. Dedicated to conserving energy with greener buildings, Delta has enabled the creation of 27 green buildings and two LEED-certified green data centers over the past years, including main operation facilities as well as buildings donated to academic institutions.

The eye-catching and green design of Delta’s building on the Automation Campus is another strong showcase for Delta’s philosophy and solutions for smarter and greener buildings.
