Artificial intelligence in industry and robotics, the potential of the new 5G mobile communications standard for industrial applications, lightweight design, and the future of work in a time of increasing digitalization were this year’s most important topics at the world’s leading tradeshow for industrial technology.

Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR), the industry first mover and market leader in autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), has announced a global strategic collaboration with one of the world’s leading companies within automotive technology, Faurecia, to deploy AMRs in its manufacturing plants worldwide.
Faurecia has investigated and tested different solutions for automating its in-house transportation for years in order to optimise productivity and internal workflows.
The company has now partnered with MiR to rethink the internal logistics in its production sites globally and make their logistics processes more efficient using autonomous mobile robots.

OnRobot, a maker of end-of-arm tooling for collaborative robots, is celebrating two prestigious wins as the company’s “lizard-inspired” Gecko Gripper was awarded silver at Edison Awards Gala held Thursday, April 4, 2019, in New York City.
The win comes hot on the heels of the Gecko Gripper winning the Robotics Award at the Hannover Messe in Germany two days earlier.
OnRobot says its gripper is set to “revolutionise manufacturing” because of its ability to attach and lift any kind of flat and smooth surfaces without costly compressed air or external power, using easy gripping technology for pick and place applications. Integrated put wall system with latest RightPick solution to be demonstrated at ProMat
RightHand Robotics, a provider of integrated robotic piece-picking solutions, has launched its first put wall integration with Capacity, an order fulfillment and e-commerce solutions company.
RightHand’s newest RightPick product platform will be integrated with existing warehouse material handling systems from Lightning Pick, a provider of light-directed and advanced order fulfillment systems.
RightPick is an autonomous robotic piece-picking platform that handles the core task of picking and placing individual items as part of a wide range of workflows and processes in warehouse fulfillment operations. A startup company called Flexiv, founded in 2016 by a team from Stanford University, has launched the third generation of its industrial robot at this year’s Hannover Messe event, in Germany. (See video below.)
Flexiv says that its new robot, called “Rizon”, is the “world’s first adaptive robot combining direct force control with advanced artificial intelligence”, although it’s not clear if it is a collaborative robot because the company itself has not used that word.

Björn Lindwall, CEO and founder of SolidEngineer, climbed Mount Everest using custom 3D printed parts made of Markforged Onyx material.
Ahead of the climb, Björn sat down with some of his team members to look at the equipment he would need.
Satellite communication was key for the expedition, so Björn set to work with one of his engineers to design a housing for the satellite communication equipment, along with updated crampons for lighter weight.

Visitors to Hannover Messe 2019 have been experiencing electric transportation in action with the installation of the fair’s first sustainable hybrid electric bus service.
Running from 1 to 5 April, Hannover Messe attracts some 220,000 visitors from around the world, this year, visitors are being transported around the site on a new emission-free hybrid shuttle bus, powered by ABB’s high-power chargers.
ABB‘s High-Power 300PD OppCharge system powers a Volvo Hybrid bus shuttling guests around the world’s biggest exhibition space, which spans 26 halls and pavilions.
