Semi symposium to consider potential of new technologies
Semiconductor industry association SEMI has organised a symposium to consider the technology requirements of Europe going forward.
The SEMI Industry Strategy Symposium (ISS Europe), scheduled for 31 March to 2 April 2019 in Milan, Italy will soon host discussions about Europe’s most relevant strategic, economic and social needs.
Top European companies, research and public institutions will debate on how Europe can seize the full potential of digital innovation through collaborations in the electronics, components and systems community – from enterprises of all sizes to researchers and academia.

An ideal forum for identifying opportunities and maximize competitive advantage, the symposium will explore how Europe can take full advantage of the potential of digital innovation.
Seeking to educate, inform and create a discussion platform on digital Innovation and exploitation for attendees from all parts of the electronics, components and systems community – from large enterprises to SME’s and RTO’s to academia.

Accenture, DG Growth, European Investment Bank, and Roland Berger will kick off the symposium and highlight market potential opportunities, investigate what attracts investment in the digital economy and how companies must adapt to competitive challenges.

The symposium will look at some of the value chains that support key thematic areas of the new economy such as mobility, medical technology, manufacturing, and security.
Industry players will investigate how the ecosystems create new capability through advanced collaborative R, D&I, and how those must exploit the technology to gain maximum commercial benefit.
The role of public funding in catalyzing this approach will also be discussed.
Disruptive technology issues: Where are we going?
Intel, Sense Reply, Microtronic, Cadence, DG Connect and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center will delve into the importance and risks of disruptive innovation. New applications, systems and products offer radically different approaches to “conventional” supply chains.
Europe must be alert to these changes and either exploit new opportunities or adapt current industrial approaches to remain competitive. A very topical subject in this area is Artificial Intelligence.
Spotlight on diversity and inclusion
A diverse, highly skilled workforce is crucial to the industry’s ability to innovate and remain competitive amidst digital disruption.
A number of participants will discuss why diversity and inclusion play an important role in fostering a workplace culture that enables higher levels of productivity, creativity, profitability, and innovation.
