The demand-driven adaptive enterprise model and flow-based operating model

May 21, 2018 by Sam Francis

ddi Workshop-Carol-Ptak small

By Chad Smith and Carol Ptak, co-founders of the Demand Driven Institute

The demand driven adaptive enterprise (DDAE) model is a complete management model designed to enable enterprises to sense market changes and adapt to complex and volatile environments.

This model utilizes a constant system of innovation and feedback between three primary components: a demand driven operating model (DDOM), demand driven sales & operations planning (DDS&OP), and adaptive sales and operations planning (adaptive S&OP).

A demand driven adaptive enterprise focuses on the protection and promotion of the flow of relevant information and materials across the operational, tactical, and relevant ranges to drive sustained return on equity performance.  [Read more…] about The demand-driven adaptive enterprise model and flow-based operating model

Kollmorgen Breyer Tube Blanks small

By Thomas Sautter, Kollmorgen

In the beginning, there is the pipe – and, at the Breyer machine factory, it comes endlessly out of the extruder.

If the singular for pipe in Latin is tubus, it is very easy to see why the technological origins of a tube are in a pipe.

Breyer is said to be one of the world market leaders in sophisticated extrusion systems.  [Read more…] about Kollmorgen launches new generation of Topline drives

Lattice Semiconductor launches ‘complete hardware stack’

May 21, 2018 by Sam Francis

lattice semiconductor sensai

Lattice Semiconductor has launched something called Lattice sensAI, which it describes as “a complete technology stack” combining modular hardware kits, neural network IP cores, software tools, reference designs and custom design services.

The company says the purpose is to accelerate the integration of machine learning inferencing into broad market IoT applications.

With solutions optimized for ultra-low power consumption (under 1 mW–1 W), small package size (5.5 mm2 –100 mm2), interface flexibility (MIPI CSI-2, LVDS, GigE, and so on), and high-volume pricing (~$1-$10 USD), Lattice sensAI stack fast-tracks implementation of edge computing close to the source of data.  [Read more…] about Lattice Semiconductor launches ‘complete hardware stack’

New research suggests ‘Robotics-as-a-Service’ (RaaS), where robotics providers rent or lease their products with solutions to customers as a full service, will be the next stage of market development.

ABI Research estimates that the installed base for RaaS will grow from 4,442 units in 2016 to 1.3 million in 2026. The yearly revenue from RaaS providers is expected to increase from US$217 million in 2016 to nearly US$34 billion in 2026.

“This will make the yearly revenue of RaaS providers (including all payments for services) greater than the shipment revenues for industrial robots, which currently accounts for the lion’s share of the robotics industry in terms of revenue,” explained Rian Whitton, Research Analyst at ABI Research.
