Ghost in the Shell: Manga movie magnificence

Even though I’m not all that familiar with “manga” comic culture, I’ve seen some manga movies and have heard of Ghost in the Shell. 

Manga originated in Japan as far back as the late-19th century, but with their arrival on television, truly awesome animated cartoons have captivated new generations of fans from around the 1980s onwards.

Milacron to show huge injection molding machine at NPE

Milacron Holdings Corp. will display the largest tonnage injection molding machine to operate at an NPE show – “The Cincinnati” by Milacron, with 2250 tons of clamping power at NPE 2018 in Orlando, Florida, USA, from 7-11 May.

The Cincinnati is a new large tonnage, true two-platen machine designed to meet the demands of the global automotive, appliance, and other large part molding markets.

The Cincinnati’s enhanced machine specifications and performance are powered by Fanuc servo motor power packs. The improved machine layout and enhanced access to the eject and die areas make operation, maintenance and servicing easier, says the company.

Clearpath makes Turtlebot Euclid open source

Clearpath Robotics, a global provider of mobile robots for research and development, is cancelling the offering of the Turtlebot Euclid platform and will open source all development work.

The company will make the code, electrical and mechanical design, parts list, and assembly instructions available online for free.

“By open sourcing TurtleBot Euclid, we hope to encourage members of the robotics community to build on the extensive design and engineering effort we’ve put into Turtlebot Euclid,” said Julian Ware, General Manager for Research Solutions at Clearpath Robotics.

Denso increases stake in microcontroller firm Renesas

Denso Corporation is increasing its shareholding in Renesas Electronics Corporation from 0.5% to 5% to accelerate the development of various in-vehicle systems, including automated driving systems.

Renesas has cutting-edge technologies for semiconductors that serve as the key devices in such systems.

Recently, in order to meet the needs of complicated vehicle control, the functionality of in-vehicle microcontrollers has been increasing. This is causing their design and manufacturing processes to be more difficult.

Universal Robots partners with AIM in the Philippines

Universal Robots aims to meet growing demand in the Philippines through its new partnership with Asia Integrated Machine, Inc. (“AIM”).

AIM, a machinery and automation solutions supplier, provides solutions for manufacturing firms, including processing, weighing, packaging, inspection, conveying, palletising and warehousing.

The partnership will see AIM deploy and offer customised automation solutions comprising end-effectors and accessories for UR’s collaborative robots (cobots).

Siemens and Atos reinforce their strategic cooperation

Siemens and Atos are reinforcing their strategic co-operation, with plans to accelerate their joint business until 2020 through an ambitious joint go-to-market plan and the strengthening of their joint innovation and investment program.

The program has been increased by €100 million, totaling €330 million – more than three times the original sum. This will further support the Siemens and Atos IoT MindSphere-Codex strategic co-operation as well as the joint go-to-market.

The program aims to enhance Siemens and Atos’ digital strategy and develop joint capabilities in Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, advanced IoT & connectivity services, cyber security and digital service technologies to support the digital transformation of their customers through an end-to-end IoT suite.
