Nuro raises $92 million to develop autonomous delivery vehicle

A company called Nuro has raised a massive $92 million to develop its autonomous delivery vehicle for commercial applications.

Speaking to IEEE Spectrum, co-founder says the company’s vehicle is “poised to change the way that businesses interact with their local customers”.

The vehicle itself is about half the size of small car and is designed for short journeys.

It uses sensors connected to cameras, lidar, and radar.

“The full vertical integration of software, hardware, and design in-house at Nuro also makes this vehicle unique,” Ferguson tells IEEE Spectrum.

Conceptually, the Nuro vehicle is somewhat similar to one revealed recently by a company called Pix Moving.

Both vehicles are designed to carry goods rather than people, although both could be re-configured for a variety of different applications.
