Siasun launches personal assistance robot for elderly

Chinese company Siasun Robot and Automation has launched a new personal assistance robot for the elderly, according to a report on the China Daily website.

Siasun, which claims to be China’s largest robotics and automation company, mostly manufactures machinery used in industrial settings.

But the company clearly believes the market for assistive robots is set to grow and plans to produce 2,000 service robots this year.

At the same time, Siasun is expecting its output of industrial robots and what it calls “intelligent manufacturing equipment” to reach 10,000 units annually from this year.

The new assistive robot is the company’s first assistive robot, and Dong Zhuang, a senior manager of the company, says it is equipped with cloud-computing technology, which “gives it the ability to learn quickly”, according to China Daily.

The robot is said to be to help users with health checks and chronic disease home care.

It also has remote monitoring functions, such as cloud-connected cameras, to enable others to check on the elderly in their care.

According to Zuo Hongci, director of the Shenyang Association of Old-Age Service Industry, said the elderly – aged over 60 – account for 23 per cent of the city’s total population.
