Hitachi puts robots on trial at Japan airport

Hitachi, and its subsidiary Hitachi Building Systems, have begun a trial of their “Emiew 3” humanoid robot at Haneda Airport, in Japan. 

The robot, developed by Hitachi, looks a little bit like the Nao robot, in its red colouring and dimensions.

Toyota enrols at University of Michigan for artificial intelligence

Research focused on artificial intelligence, robotics and autonomous driving at the University of Michigan (U-M) will get a major boost thanks to an initial $22 million commitment from the Toyota Research Institute (TRI) . 

The deal was announced by TRI-CEO Gill Pratt in an address to the U-M faculty, who said: “Toyota has long enjoyed an excellent working relationship with the University of Michigan, and we are excited to expand our collective efforts to address complex mobility challenges through artificial intelligence.

“We look forward to collaborating with U-M’s research faculty and students to develop new intelligent technologies that will help drivers travel more safely, securely and efficiently. Liquid Robotics and Hydro Systems deliver Japan’s first long-term ocean observation network

Liquid Robotics and its Japanese partner Hydro Systems Development (HSD) have delivered the first fleet of Wave Gliders to the Japan Coast Guard.

Liquid Robotics and HSD will assist the Japan Coast Guard in deploying eight Wave Gliders for a multi-year mission providing autonomous observation and situational awareness of ocean currents, wave activity, and weather along Japan’s coastlines.

North American industry buys record numbers of robots

The North American automation industry has set new records to begin 2016, according to the Association for Advancing Automation (A3), the industry’s trade group.

The advent of more automation in North American manufacturing promises increased efficiencies in production and the ability to compete globally, says A3.

Kawasaki signs up AV Birch Automation to its integrator program

Robotics giant Kawasaki has signed up AV Birch Automation to its exclusive integration program as a preferred specialist.

The partnership, announced on August 12th, means that AV Birch Automation have access to the expertise, training and software tools of the Japanese manufacturer.

The comprehensive range of robots and machine loaders manufactured by Kawasaki already feature in some of AV Birch Automation client facilities and the new relationship creates an even tighter bond between end user and manufacturer.
