Engineering company Akasol says it has developed a pioneering lithium-ion battery systems for series production commercial vehicles

High-performance, customisable batteries for demanding applications in commercial vehicles have traditionally been very costly, but Akasol is presenting the world premiere of a promising new solution at this year’s IAA Commercial Vehicles (Hanover 22–29 September 2016): the AkaSystem OEM.

The compact, modular lithium-ion battery system is particularly well-suited for use in commercial vehicles such as buses, lorries, construction vehicles or other specialised vehicles.

Experts at the German “pioneer of e-mobility battery storage solutions” claim they have succeeded in integrating standardised PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) modules from large battery manufacturers like those used in passenger car production to enable them to meet the demanding requirements of commercial vehicle drives.  [Read more…] about Akasol launches ‘pioneering’ new customisable battery technology for large vehicles

Industrial robot-making giant Denso to advance artificial intelligence knowledge, signs technical advisory contract with Carnegie Mellon University

In an effort to deepen and advance its knowledge in artificial intelligence, Denso has entered into a technical advisory contract with one of the world’s foremost researchers in computer vision, Carnegie Mellon University Professor Dr Takeo Kanade.

Through this contract, Denso is looking to advance its artificial intelligence technology and expand its engineering expertise in the areas of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous drive, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Dr Kanade, a UA and Helen Whitaker University Professor of Robotics and Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon, will provide technical guidance to Denso engineers on image recognition and machine learning, and will also speak at lectures and seminars organized by Denso for a variety of purposes, such as recruiting, relationship building, and so on. These activities will be held mostly in Japan.  [Read more…] about Denso teams up with Carnegie Mellon to develop artificial intelligence knowledge

OR Laser says it has built a welding solution which can be equipped with a powder nozzle for additive manufacturing

Direct metal deposition (DMD) can be up to 250 to 330 per cent faster than manual laser cladding.

New Additive Manufacturing 2.0 (AM 2.0)-capable laser welding systems can now be equipped with a recently developed powder nozzle from OR Lasertechnologie  that permits fully automatic layerwise buildup.

This solution holds enormous potential for tool and mold making applications at small and midsized companies.  [Read more…] about OR Laser develops additive manufacturing which enables ‘fast modification of molds’
