Yaskawa releases new line of drive servos and amplifiers

April 26, 2016 by David Edwards

yaskawa drive

Yaskawa has launched a new line of rotary, linear and direct drive servos and amplifiers that the company says “bring a new level of operating efficiency to automated equipment”.

Yaskawa, one of the world’s biggest industrial robot manufacturers, says its Sigma-7 has bandwidth and resolution improvements.

Yaskawa says system designers and automation end users will benefit from the speed, precision and efficiency improvements in Sigma-7, adding that it is “the most technologically advanced servo systems ever created” by the company.  [Read more…] about Yaskawa releases new line of drive servos and amplifiers

Space Systems Loral, a provider of commercial satellites, has been awarded a contract to provide a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite to an undisclosed customer.

In addition to building the satellite, SSL will also provide the launch and will operate the satellite on orbit.

“Our production of innovative small satellites is growing in both size and diversity,” said John Celli, president of SSL.

SSL’s manufacturing facility for small satellite production provides lower cost and faster production time than has been typical for satellite manufacturing in the past. With this contract award SSL now has 21 LEO satellites under construction.

Audi opens research facility to study bees with a robot

The robot arm in the Smart Hobos high-tech beehive is fitted with state-of-the-art camera systems: 3D sensors as well as infrared and heat-sensitive cameras record the bees and their activities

Audi is using robots to help bees from going extinct

Bees pollinate about 80 percent of our agricultural plants and wild vegetation, so life without bees is almost impossible.

Too little pollination would have severe consequences – both environmental and economic. With the worldwide unique “Smart Hobos” (HoneyBee Online Studies) project, the Audi Stiftung für Umwelt (Audi Environmental Foundation) and the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg are working to protect these vital and fascinating insects.

Audi today opened a research station at its production site in Münchsmünster. The first bees will soon move into their new home. [Read more…] about Audi opens research facility to study bees with a robot

Dark matter is the mysterious and elusive target for the world’s scientists now

Ninety-five percent of the universe is still considered unexplored. Scientists at CERN, the world’s largest particle physics research center, located in Geneva, are working on solving these mysteries.

In May 2012, researchers there discovered the so-called Higgs Boson, whose prediction won Peter Higgs and François Englert the Nobel prize in physics.

One of the things CERN scientists are researching at the moment is dark matter: Although it may well have five times the mass of visible matter in the universe, this extent can only be indirectly proved. With a bit of luck, CERN will also succeed in generating dark matter.  [Read more…] about Infineon supplies CERN with sensors to detect dark matter
