DJI on Sunday introduced the Matrice 600, its next-generation aerial platform, marking a new era for professional aerial photography, filmmaking and industrial applications.

The M600 integrates DJI’s brand-new A3 flight controller onboard and features advanced Lightbridge 2 video-transmission technology that offers high frame rates and HD live-streaming capability at distances up to five kilometers.

“The M600 is the most-powerful and easiest-to-use professional platform DJI has ever produced,” said senior product manager Paul Pan. “We’ve pre-programmed all M600 platform data and information into the A3 flight controller, remote and transmission system to minimize setup and get you flying as quickly as possible.”

Details on DJI’s website.

European Space Agency building robot holiday resort on the Moon

Artist’s illustration of ESA’s multi-dome concept… apparently it’s being constructed now

The European Space Agency is building a holiday resort on the Moon which will be mainly populated by robots –  perhaps solely populated by robots, according to ESA director general Jan Woerner

Before the advent of steam engines and motorised travel, it could take several days to go from one city to another. Even today, if you travel by boat, you’re in for weeks of gazing across the waters of an ocean like the Atlantic.

And if you’re one of those people who’s willing to travel at leasure rather than go fast, then the idea of spending three days in a spaceship to go to the Moon for a weekend break might appeal.

There’s little or no doubt that there’s a market there – plenty of people would happily spend 72 hours stargazing on the way to the Sea of Tranquility or wherever their Moon-based holiday resort is being built. [Read more…] about European Space Agency building robot holiday resort on the Moon

Caterpillar, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of construction and mining equipment, much of which is robotic or autonomous, is to use Dassault Systèmes 3DExperience software.

Dassault says the industrial giant has chosen the platform because its powerful 3D mock-up capabilities and product lifecycle management (PLM) features were essential to its requirements.

Dassault has been particularly keen to demonstrate its software’s simulation capabilities, having launched “single source for speed” system, featuring Simulia applications. These will enable enable Caterpillar to virtually evaluate the performance, quality and durability of future products before committing to physical prototypes, says Dassault.  [Read more…] about Caterpillar to use Dassault Systèmes 3DExperience platform
