HMS integrates support for OPC UA and MQTT into its Anybus CompactCom networking solutions

HMS Industrial Networks has integrated support for the IoT protocols OPC UA and MQTT within its Anybus CompactCom range of embedded networking solutions.

HMS says that, with OPC UA and MQTT in the portfolio, device and machine manufacturers who use CompactCom are offered “a straight-forward path to providing secure data to the IIoT factories of tomorrow – already today”.

To achieve the vision of Industrial Internet of Things, device and machine manufacturers are required not only to connect their hardware to different industrial networks on operational technology, but also to provide data to IT systems and IoT software.  Continue reading HMS integrates support for OPC UA and MQTT into its Anybus CompactCom networking solutions

Video: Siemens predicts small number of companies will dominate industrial internet

Only a small number of companies will dominate the industrial internet, according to a business development executive at Siemens, who was speaking to RoboticsAndAutomationNews.com at Hannover Messe.

The German engineering giant recently launched its MindScape IoT platform and more than 50 individual apps for a variety of scenarios in industry.

Matthias Lutz, business development manager, digital factory division, Siemens, says: “I personally do see a couple of platforms co-existing in future, and maybe a couple of very specialised ones.

“But in the end, in my opinion, I think it’s a matter of two to three large platforms.”  Continue reading Video: Siemens predicts small number of companies will dominate industrial internet

EIT Digital has launched what it calls a “Robot IoT Interface”, a new technology project being developed with the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and Poitiers-based startup Agileo Automation.

The goal of the technology is to enable different kind of robots and machines to connect to different cloud platforms.

Agileo’s managing director, Marc Engel, says: “Robots and machines may produce data in a standard or non- standard format according to their internal controller.

“The devised solution is a generic gateway that can receive the produced data, translate it into an OPC-UA model and then make it available in an IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) platform located in the cloud.”  Continue reading EIT Digital launches ‘Robot IoT Interface’ solution
