Audio Analytic and Bragi are partnering to develop cloudless artificial intelligence sound recognition technology for a category of products called “hearables”, which can include wireless earphones.
The companies say the product is the “world’s first audio context-aware earphones”, and will be demonstrated at the Consumer Electronics Show, or CES.
Systems which can pick up sound more clearly and distinguish between different sounds are likely to become increasingly important in many markets, including robotics, especially as more and more humanoids are being sold. Continue reading Audio Analytic and Bragi to launch ‘world’s first audio context-aware earphones’ at CES
A startup company called Ouster has raised $27 million in its Series A funding round, led by Cox Enterprises, a diversified company which has a very large automotive business unit.
Ouster is a developer of light detection and radar systems, or lidar, which is said to be a critical component in many new technologies, including autonomous cars. A lidar unit can often be seen on top of self-driving cars, and looks a bit like a siren light.
Ouster’s new product is called OS1 Lidar, which is likely to find wide application as a perception technology for the autonomous vehicle and robotics sectors. Continue reading Lidar developer Ouster backed by Cox Enterprises raises $27 million
A startup company called PerceptIn has raised a total of $11 million in funding, and has launched a new robotics vision system.
The funding came from Samsung Ventures, among others.
The vision system is called Ironsides, and PerceptIn claims it to be “the first full robotics vision system to combine both hardware and software for real-time tracking, mapping, and path planning for autonomous robots”. STMicroelectronics has launched a miniature two-axis MEMS gyroscope which the company says offers more stability.
Smaller, thinner smartphone camera modules can provide pin-sharp image stabilization and make extra space for new devices.
The device type STMicroelectronics has in mind are smartphones. The company says the new L20G20IS miniature 2-axis MEMS gyroscope can enable handsets to have features such as increased performance and advanced vibration immunity.
As the newest member of ST’s highly integrated optical image stabilization device family, the L20G20IS measures just 2.0mm x 2.0mm x 0.7mm, liberating an extra 1.29mm2 of board space (compared to the previous 2.3mm x 2.3mm L2G2IS) to help shrink camera-module size and simplify circuit design.
