Lenovo showcases ‘world’s first’ laptop with foldable screen

Computer manufacturer Lenovo is showcasing a preview model of what it claims is “the world’s first foldable” personal computer. In other words, it’s a laptop with a foldable screen.

Unveiled within days of Samsung announcing a recall of its Galaxy Fold smartphone because of technical problems, the new foldable laptop will be part of Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 range.

Lenovo says the “unprecedented portability” of the folding laptop will not compromise productivity and reliability.

“This is not a phone, tablet, or familiar hybrid,” says the company. “This is a full-fledged laptop with a foldable screen.”

The new machine has a single organic light-emitting diode – OLED – 2K display made in collaboration with LG Display that can fold in half and reduce its width by 50 percent, and is Intel-powered with Windows.

Lenovo plans to release the foldable laptop next year.
